Salzburg, Austria Christmas Market
An enchanting experience celebrating Christmas
In December 2015 I had the opportunity to host a group of 28 people on a Danube River Christmas Markets cruise. We stopped at over 6 Christmas markets along the Danube. I fondly remember the Salzburg Christmas Market. We arrived at about 4pm and the crowd was bustling with merriment. People were wandering around sipping mulled wine, eating giant sausages and enjoying the many stalls of vendors selling their products. Vendors were selling everything from chocolate, Christmas oranaments, handmade wool clothing, wooden toys and gagets, food and beautiful Christmas presents.
As we strolled the market we enjoyed our hot mulled wine in an unique mug. Each Christmas market throughout Europe has their own unique mug. When you purchase the mulled wine, you can either return the mug and receive some euros back or you can keep the mug. We came home with 3 unique mugs. My cousin and I stopped at a vendor selling handmade woolen hats. My cousin bought a black one and I bought a bright turquoise one. I still smile when I look at that hat.
The cathedral at the end of the town square was hosting a Christmas concert. As it started to get dark, the twinkling Christmas lights came on and it looked like an enchanted scene. You could hear the music coming from the cathedral as we walked throughout the market. I will cherish the memories of my day strolling the enchanting Christmas market of Salzburg. It was one of my most favorite markets.
